Which Type of Addiction Therapy is Right for You?

Addiction therapy can help you to overcome an addiction. Recovering from one is a big step and not comfortable. Admitting you have a problem and finding the help you need is pressing and an essential first step.

Know what to expect from various treatments before entering the program. This aspect will help you to make an informed decision on whether this is right for you before moving forward.

Addiction therapy on your terms

If a structured recovery setting is not appealing, there are other options. Private therapy sessions are available.  In our office, a therapist can speak with a patient about their past issues and where the drug use began. This can help with getting to the bottom of the problems that were never resolved; something that is important for preventing a relapse.

Additionally, we offer patients the ability to detox at home, supporting them during the process by prescribing medication. The medication is designed to reduce or eliminate the usual symptoms people face when detoxing. The fevers, chills, pain, etc., will not be there when using it. As a result, our patients can receive addiction therapy and support from the comfort of their own home. We merely require patients to visit our office for appointments and therapy sessions. Otherwise, it is even possible to go to work, pick up the kids from school and live life like normal.

Detoxing in a medical facility is the other option

Detox can be done in an approved medical facility under the care of a specialized physician and medical staff. Only after the substance is out of the system and the person is being discharged can they request an ongoing addiction therapy program.

In-patient centers have been the standard of care

Inpatient centers are structured and organized to offer direction and guidance to residents. With programs, therapies, and schedules to follow, this removes uncertainty from the day-to-day plan. This helps an addict overcome addiction and learn how to find themselves once again. Depending on the specific center, the activities and schedules may vary.

Routines at the center are designed to help patients be healthy and happy

Though many of the residents might want to stay in bed, it is expected of them to get up, get dressed and get ready for their day. Mornings always start with a healthy, full breakfast. Yoga, meditation, or other workout programs are often offered during the morning hours. This part of the program helps residents learn healthier habits in the morning time with hopes that they will follow the same schedule once they leave.

Group sessions

Mid-morning to early afternoon brings group sessions for most. These sessions help each resident speak about their issues and find help from others. Everyone in the group session has something in common with one another. This makes sharing stories easier because everyone has been in the same situation at least once in their lives. Speaking and leaning on one another lets the resident know they are not alone.

Specialized therapies

Depending on the center, specialized treatments are provided to the residents. Finding a therapy that is soothing and comforting to the patient that they can focus their efforts on is ideal. This addiction therapy helps the patient replace the substance with a new hobby. Some of the specialized therapies offered include:

  • Art therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Equine therapy
  • Dance therapy

Our patients prefer to recover at home

While the traditional model of checking into a recovery center works, many of our patients prefer to recover at home. Fortunately, we offer this option.
